Should I make the switch?

April 11, 2016 by Melissa Roach Leave a Comment

led bulbs, incandescent

Incandescent to LED – should I make the switch?  If you have been wondering if you should switch to LED bulbs and why, this is for you!

When you go to the store to get new light bulbs, you will notice that LED bulbs have taken over the shelves.  You may also notice the price tag to be quite a bit more than what you are used to paying for you standard light bulb.  While replacing all of your incandescent bulbs to LED’s looks like a big expense, it will be beneficial in the long run.  LED bulbs use 4x less energy and last 10x as long as an incandescent.  So…is it worth it?  Most would say that it definitely is worth paying more upfront.

Another benefit to switching to the newer style of light bulb is maintenance.  We all hate to have to change the lights in the hard to reach places like high flood lights or the bulbs in a tall foyer.  Using LED bulbs with a longer life span will allow for less time and frustration of having to take care of those issues.  This is especially helpful in areas where you have to pay for someone to come and change the lights.  This saves more money which will also help in justifying the high initial cost.

The design of the LED bulb has changed quite a bit over the years.  You will now see a variety of shapes, colors, and brightness available.  When shopping for your bulbs, remember that the brightness of an LED bulb is measured in lumens, not watts.  The packaging will inform you of the comparison in watts in order for you to compare.

Most of us have already started switching over to LED bulbs, but for those that are still on the fence, hopefully this puts your mind at ease.  We all want to spend less money and use less energy.  This helps to save our pocketbook and the earth at the same time!
