After shopping around for a home, you find “the one:. You can just see yourself and your family in that home. It’s perfect! The next step is to make an offer, but what if that offer is not accepted? Here are some tips on dealing with rejected offers…
- Don’t waste your precious time trying to figure out what went wrong. You may think that everything you offered was more than fair given the current state of the real estate market in the area, but you will waste valuable time sitting around trying to figure out what was wrong. As much as you loved the home, it’s just not worth it. Make better use of your time by getting back out there and finding the next “perfect home” for you. Who knows? Maybe they will come back to you after you have walked away.
- Give it your best shot. If your previous offer left a little bit of room for negotiating and it wasn’t accepted well by the sellers, then put it all out there. Make the best possible offer you can, and see what happens. It may be that the sellers just aren’t very motivated to sell. If your best isn’t good enough, then it’s time to move on.
- Don’t dwell on the past. Sure, you think it’s THE HOME for you. In reality, though, if it doesn’t work out, you will likely find one you like even better! Just take what you have learned from this experience and put it toward the next home you make an offer on.
Whatever the reason for a rejected offer, just make sure you don’t let it get you down. Not everything works out the way we want. Try to keep from getting too attached until you know for sure that it is going to work out…and often that moment is not until you have signed papers at the closing table!
